Shared Resources Scheduling and Management System (SRS)
A Core Facility is a centralized, shared resource that provides access to instruments; technologies; services; cellular, animal, or human study support; and expert consultation to scientific investigators. National Institute of Health (NIH) funds a significant number of core facilities at hundreds of institutions throughout the United States.
Challenges for Core Facilities / Share Resources Management
- Resource sharing has become a necessity for modern scientific and healthcare research because of the increasing cost and complexity of instruments and facilities.
- Federal agencies have been increasing enforcement in appropriate use of grant resources.
- Share resources managers are facing a number of challenges to ensure that proper record keeping and usage charge structure meet with federal mandates.
- Income from NIH grant supported shared resources must be reported in the budget/financial statements accompanying annual progress reports and on the annual financial status report services.
- Maintain user logs for each shared resource and service and have them available at the site visit.
The Solution is the "SRS"
- SRS is a web-based solution for managing shared resources / core facilities that streamlines the scheduling, accounting, and reporting processes.
- SRS helps organizations in cutting costs and improving operating efficiency as well as maximizing the utilization of their shared resources.
- SRS meets NIH policy guidelines relative to Core Facility income. It provides tools for managing account receivables and generating billing reports with a special capability in generating a Peer/Non-Peer Reviewed Research Fund Usage Report.
- SRS eliminates all the paperwork and cumbersome bookkeeping that goes with managing shared resources. SRS transforms the cumbersome traditional processes of shared resources reservations and management into a 21st Century Web 2.0 based business operation paradigm.
- SRS supports two types of services that the shared resources may provide to requestors:
- Time-binding self-operating service. For example, equipment and instruments that charge fees based on use time.
- Work order service. For example, sample and bio-statistical analysis which charge fees by sample count or per work order.
- Under Web 2.0 Software as a Service model, SRS is licensed for use as services provided to organizations. C3Tech hosts SRS for organizations and eliminates the need for organizations paying for the expensive up-front costs in hardware, software, installation and maintenance.
- SRS is a complete solution for shared resource management and streamlining the scheduling, accounting and reporting through two groups of users:
- Users: the shared resource service requestors.
- Administrations: administrator, facility manager, accounting manager, and technician.
