Q: What is SRS and what does it do?
SRS stands for Shared Resources Scheduling and Management System, an innovative web base Core Facility management tool. It is a dynamic web based facility scheduling software for managing the schedules, accounting, and reporting of an organization's core facilities / shared resources. It allows an organization to control a facility's many properties including scheduling, availability, access, cost, usage reporting, and billing. In particular, SRS meets NIH policy guidelines relative to Core Facility Income.

Q: What do I need to run SRS?
Nothing. Users receive comprehensive setup and support from C3Tech with no additional resources are required.

Q: Can you explain the structure of the SRS?
The SRS starts with an organization which has the desire to manage its various core facilities / shared resources. Each organization manages its facilities by begining the software setup process by entering Shared Resources into the system. Each Shared Resource will have a number of Services which can have unique properties and be managed individually.

Q: What is a Core Facility?
A Core Facility is a centralized, shared resource that provides access to instruments; technologies; services; cellular, animal, or human study support; and expert consultation to scientific investigators. National Institute of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) fund a significant number of core facilities at hundreds of institutions throughout the United States.

Q: How many Services may I have for a Shared Resource?
A unit can have any reasonable number of Services.

Q: Can I have more than one Facility Manager and/or Administrator to manage a Shared Resource?
Yes.

Q: Can I have more than one Accounting Manager to manager a accounting, billing, and usage reporting?
Yes.

Q: Can a Facility/Accounting Manager manage multiple Shared Resources?
Yes.

Q: How many types of Share Resources can SRS support?
SRS supports two types of services that the shared resources may provide to requestors:

  • Time-binding self-operating service. For example, equipment and instruments that charge fees based on use time
  • Work order service. For example, sample and bio-statistical analysis which charge fees by sample count or per work order.

Q: Can SRS support multiple pricing for a Service?
Yes.

Q: Can a Shared Resource User (requestor) make repeatable or group reservations at one time?
Yes.

Q: Can Shared Resources Managers and Administrators manage their responsible Shared Resources anywhere and anytime?
Yes. As long as Facility Managers have Internet access, they can manage their responsible Facilities anywhere and anytime.

Q: Can a Shared Resource User change repeatable or grouping reservations?
Yes. He/she can use the reservation confirmation number and e-mail address to change his/her reservations.

Q: Can a Shared Resource User check his/her reservation request status without contacting the Shared Resource Manager?
Yes. He/She can use the reservation confirmation number plus e-mail address to chek the status.

Q: Can a Shared Resources Manager receive reminder when a reservation is made?
Facility Managers can elect to receive e-mail reminder.

Q: My organization has unique core facilities, can SRS support them?
The SRS is capable of managing a variety of facilities and supports a broad range of configuration options as well as custom reservation questions, usage agreements, cancelation policies and more.

Q: Is SRS secure and reliable?

All applications are thoroughly tested and implement the industry proven Java programming language to insure our software will remain reliable in mission critical situations.

Q: How does SRS prevent unauthorized facility reservations?
All reservations in the SRS are treated as requests until they are approved or denied by a Shared Resources Manager. This prevents unauthorized users from reserving a room without prior authorization and payment. The Facility Managers can also issue access codes to their authorized users to prevent unnecessary access.
